Shannon Beador is being sued by her ex, John Janssen, for $75k as he claims she borrowed the money for a facelift – but never repaid the loan.
The Real Housewives Of Orange County star, 59, notably dated the businessman from 2019 until their split in November 2022. However, the TV personality didn’t go public with the split until the start of the following year.
Beador has also been taking court-ordered classes as part of her DUI hit-and-run sentence – which also includes probation and other fines.
According to documents obtained by People, Janssen, 61, filed the lawsuit earlier this week on Wednesday at the Orange County Superior Court.
He has accused Shannon of allegedly breaching their oral contract as well as promissory fraud due to not repaying him.
John claimed that in January 2022, he loaned her $40,000 for a facelift which was sent by a wire transfer. And in May 2023, he sent her a personal check for $35,000.
In the court documents, he further claimed that both he and Beador agreed that she would pay him back the sum with interest.
However, Janssen alleged that after asking for the repayment in 2023 and also this year, the reality star has yet to do so.
Along with the full $75k, the Real Housewives star’s ex is also requesting that she pay accrued costs and interest, as well as his attorney’s fees.
After the lawsuit came to light, Shannon released a statement to People on Friday to give her response. ‘I am shocked and disappointed that John has a filed a lawsuit.’
‘My attorney has been in constant communication with his counsel. I agreed to pay John what he wanted because I knew that attorneys fees would surpass the amount sought, but more importantly to eliminate the negative emotional components that come with a lawsuit.’
‘It is important that I continue to focus on the positive aspects of my life and move forward.’
Beador added, ‘John declined the offer because he refused to sign a mutual non-disparagement agreement.’
‘I was hoping that if I met his baseless demand we could at least use this as an opportunity to bring complete closure to this chapter in my life.’
John’s own council also released a statement and shot down Shannon’s claim that the $75k had been a ‘gift’ from Janssen.
Edson K. McClellan, Rutan & Tucker LLP, informed People, ‘Ms. Beador’s defense that Mr. Janssen paid her the $75,000 as a “gift” is completely meritless, which their e-mails and text messages will show.’
‘Mr. Janssen is saddened that Ms. Beador’s unwillingness to repay the loans made it necessary to file this lawsuit.’
Following Shannon and John’s split in late 2022, Janssen has since moved on and struck up a romance with RHOC alum, Alexis Bellino.
The two first crossed paths in November 2023 and went public the following month when they were seen holding hands during an outing in Newport Beach.
Upon learning of the relationship, Beador admitted at the time that, ‘I’m not going to lie, I’ve been hurt. I’ve been hurt a lot in the last couple of weeks.’
She explained that she was hurt, ‘because, No. 1, John said that he didn’t want to be in the public eye, and he’s thrust himself more into the public eye at this point. So, I’m quite confused about that.’
Bellino’s ex-husband, Jim, previously sued Beador for defamation in 2018 – but she eventually won the case.
‘John is very well aware of a lawsuit that I was involved in with Jim Bellino, and Alexis was involved in that lawsuit.’
‘I was financially and emotionally devastated for years. And I won. But it devastated me financially. And I’m a single mom. John’s aware of that,’ she added.
Shannon then questioned, ‘I don’t know how to process it. How many Orange County Housewives have there been? Is that your dating pool?’
Her ex’s lawsuit comes five months after Shannon was sentenced to three years probation in November of last year. She was also ordered to 40 hours of community service and a nine-month alcohol program.
Beador avoided jailtime after her DUI hit-and-run that took place in September 2023 when she crashed into a house in Newport Beach.
Video surveillance had caught the moment the star was speeding on a residential street when the accident occurred. She fled the scene and had a blood alcohol content that was three times the legal limit.
During the sentencing, she notably did not show up to court, but instead her attorney appeared to enter a no contest plea.
At the time, a source stated, ‘It is safe to say that she is relieved and is grateful that she won’t have to go to jail.’
‘This experience has taught her so much and shown her the path to a better life. She is sober and is doing very well.’
