Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Georgia’s Ambassador to the European Union, on Monday said the upcoming visit of the country’s Foreign Minister to Brussels served to inform the European Union institutions about the implementation of the bloc’s conditions for granting the country the membership candidate status later this year.
In his remarks, Makharoblishvili noted the visit was “another significant example” of the “dynamic and intense” relations between Georgia and the European Union.
The main topic of the meetings is the implementation of 12 priorities. A number of very important steps have been taken recently, therefore it will be very important to provide the information to the European counterparts once again and to hear their assessments. In addition, the conversation with the European Commissioners will touch on further steps in the direction of the sectoral integration of Georgia and the European Union”, the Georgian diplomat said.
Makharoblishvili added the top Georgian diplomat would also focus on “all topics” on the agenda of Georgia-EU relations, including security matters, Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and its impact on Georgia, the general security situation in the Black Sea region and the situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia.
Darchiashvili will be on the visit to Brussels from Monday to Tuesday to hold high-level meetings in the European Commission.
He will meet with the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, as well as with the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs, the Vice President of the European Commission, the European Commissioner for Values and Transparency, the European Commissioner for Energy and the European Commissioner for Economy.
Darchiashvili will also meet with the Director General of the General Directorate of Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission and permanent representatives of EU member states.
