U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 2.60% By Investing.com


Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, Life Insurance/Assurance and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 2.60% to hit a new 1-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 3.49% or 25.20 points to trade at 747.40 at the close. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) added 2.10% or 58.00 points to end at 2,824.00 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) was up 1.62% or 30.50 points to 1,912.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 7.68% or 57.20 points to trade at 687.20 in late trade. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) declined 6.89% or 51.00 points to end at 688.80 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) shed 6.31% or 9.94 points to 147.48.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1590 to 335 and 377 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 2.51% or 46.85 to $1,914.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.37% or 1.82 to hit $74.86 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.36% or 1.95 to trade at $80.83 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 1.31% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.44% to 0.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.92% at 103.19.
