U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 1.16% By Investing.com


Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Support Services, Real Estate and General Industrial sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.16%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX), which rose 2.39% or 196.00 points to trade at 8,384.00 at the close. Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) added 2.39% or 58.00 points to end at 2,489.00 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG) was up 1.88% or 152.00 points to 8,226.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which lost 18.65% or 110.90 points to trade at 483.90 in late trade. Rightmove PLC (LON:RMV) declined 14.29% or 82.20 points to end at 493.20 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) shed 6.08% or 81.00 points to 1,252.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 596 to 218 and 1287 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.29% or 5.65 to $1,973.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.79% or 0.69 to hit $87.96 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.51% or 0.47 to trade at $91.97 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.24% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.34% to 0.87.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 105.91.
