U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.25% By Investing.com
Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Food & Drug Retailers and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 4.78% or 20.30 points to trade at 444.70 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 3.07% or 4.65 points to end at 156.30 and Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) was up 2.33% or 44.50 points to 1,954.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 5.19% or 29.20 points to trade at 533.20 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 4.21% or 20.00 points to end at 455.00 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) shed 3.17% or 174.00 points to 5,318.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 972 to 791 and 451 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.35% or 7.05 to $2,035.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.71% or 1.26 to hit $72.45 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.45% or 1.12 to trade at $76.32 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.12% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 101.33.
