Capital at risk. All investments carry a varying degree of risk and it’s important you understand the nature of these. The value of your investments can go down as well as up and you may get back less than you put in. Where we promote an affiliate partner that provides investment products, our promotion is limited to that of their listed stocks & shares investment platform. We do not promote or encourage any other products such as contract for difference, spread betting or forex. Investments in a currency other than sterling are exposed to currency exchange risk. Currency exchange rates are constantly changing which may affect the value of the investment in sterling terms. You could lose money in sterling even if the stock price rises in the currency of origin. Stocks listed on overseas exchanges may be subject to additional dealing and exchange rate charges, and may have other tax implications, and may not provide the same, or any, regulatory protection as in the UK. Crypto stocks are the publicly-traded shares of companies that are highly exposed to the cryptocurrency market or blockchain technology.

The first cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, was launched in 2009, followed by Litecoin. Since then, the cryptocurrency market has grown exponentially to encompass a dizzying array of coins, blockchains, crypto exchanges and payment processors.

Investors have been attracted by some of the eye-watering gains on offer. During a crypto bull run from early 2020 to late 2021, the price of Bitcoin rose more than eight-fold, while Ethereum increased by more than 8,000%.

However, prices went sharply into reverse during the following ‘crypto winter’, highlighting crypto’s volatility and vulnerability to shifts in investor confidence.

Despite this, many investors have kept their faith in cryptocurrencies, with a recent survey by the Financial Conduct Authority revealing that more than 10% of 18-35 year olds in the UK hold crypto investments.

To help investors navigate through the options, we researched crypto-oriented stocks and our findings are set out below, in alphabetical order. Full details of the criteria used are set out in the methodology.
