Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.26% By Investing.com


Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the IT, Real Estate and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.26%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were K92 Mining Inc (TSX:KNT), which rose 5.20% or 0.30 points to trade at 6.07 at the close. Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV) added 4.35% or 0.33 points to end at 7.91 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) was up 3.12% or 0.19 points to 6.28 in late trade.

Biggest losers included MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG), which lost 6.40% or 1.06 points to trade at 15.50 in late trade. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) declined 4.79% or 1.91 points to end at 38.00 and Brookfield Infrastructure Partners LP (TSX:BIP_u) shed 3.72% or 1.80 points to 46.60.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 501 to 422 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.96% to 10.68 a new 52-week low.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.06% or 1.25 to $1,969.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.49% or 1.05 to hit $71.67 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.14% or 0.86 to trade at $76.53 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.21% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.26% to 0.69.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 101.88.
