Incentive to live mortgage free for a year in Barnstaple

Reduce your household bills with a move to an energy efficient new home in Barnstaple where there’s the chance to live mortgage free for a year.

The move-making incentive, worth up to £12,000, is being offered by Elan Homes for a limited time only. It’s available on selected homes only at various developments including Pickards at Larkbear in Barnstaple.

Factor in the energy efficiency of a new home compared with an older property and there’s the potential to save almost £15,000 in the first year with further savings in future.

Elan regional sales director Tracey Ball said: “Almost everyone is looking at ways they to reduce household bills and a move to a new home in Barnstaple could provide the ultimate solution. Many people are keeping a watching eye on changing interest rates before committing to buy a house, but with our mortgage paid for a year incentive available for a limited time only now is the time to buy. It’s worth up to £1,000 a month or as much as £12,000 a year which could make a substantial difference to household budgets.”

At Pickards at Larkbear, the incentive is available on plot 46, a two-bedroom semi-detached Beeston style property, priced at £270,000.

It’s the final home available on Elan’s current phase of a wider new neighbourhood that will eventually include a range of facilities including a new primary school; local centre; acres of open space and woodland, plus cycle paths and more.

All Elan homes achieve a minimum EPC (energy performance certificate) rating of B, making them eligible for green mortgages, which can offer lower interest rates than a standard mortgage.

“One of the major advantages of buying a new build house is that it’s generally likely to be much more efficient than an older property. Our homes are well insulated, with highly efficient heating systems and integrated top brand name appliances. These features could mean lower mortgage repayments as well as cheaper running costs,” Tracey added.

“Based on HBF research switching from an older property to an energy efficient new home could potentially reduce bills by up to £220 a month or £2,600 a year.”
