Zuckerberg and Musk trade zingers over cage fight plans – POLITICO

Billionaire-entrepreneur Elon Musk wants to livestream a cage fight with Mark Zuckerberg on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter — but the Meta chief isn’t having it.

After Musk said the proposed fight would be broadcast on his platform with proceeds going to “charity for veterans,” Zuckerberg mocked the claim on Meta’s own Threads platform.

“Shouldn’t we use a more reliable platform that can actually raise money for charity?” Zuckerberg said, above a screenshot of Musk’s post.

The two social media moguls seemingly agreed in late June to participate in a (physical) cage fight.

“Am lifting weights throughout the day, preparing for the fight,” Musk said on Sunday, adding: “Don’t have time to work out, so I just bring them to work.”

Zuckerberg replied: “I’m ready today. I suggested Aug 26 when he first challenged, but he hasn’t confirmed. Not holding my breath.”

Now rivals as heads of two major social media platforms, Zuckerberg and Musk have regularly engaged in episodes of public bickering, culminating with the South African-born entrepreneur’s offer to get physical.

Musk, whose unpredictable management style since he bought Twitter for $44 billion last October has included thousands of layoffs and changing the platform’s name, is notorious for his unfiltered social media posts.

The specifics of the potential cage fight remain vague. But if it actually happens, Zuckerberg could have the advantage: he took up Brazilian jiu-jitsu during the COVID-19 pandemic, winning his first local tournament in California in May.

“I love this sport and will continue competing with people who train no matter what happens here,” Zuckerberg said late on Sunday.
