POT Noodle fans are steaming — after prices almost doubled in a year.
The budget-friendly dehydrated snacks have risen by up to 93 per cent, more than five times the food inflation rate.
Six varieties, including Chicken & Mushroom, are now £1.35 in Sainsbury’s, after they were just 70p in a promo deal last August.
Seven flavours at Asda are up 60 per cent while Tesco hiked 11 by half.
The overall increase for all flavours in each store was 34 per cent, comparison site Trolley found.
Meanwhile, official figures last week showed the food inflation rate was 17.4 per cent in the 12 months to June.
Pot Noodle manufacturers Unilever has been accused of unfairly hiking prices for other products like Marmite, Dove soap and Ben & Jerry’s.
In July it reported rising revenues even as consumers squeezed by the cost of living crisis bought fewer products.
Average price rises of 9.4 per cent helped boost income as it announced increased operating profits of £4.5billion despite a 0.2 per cent fall in sales.
Unilever insisted in July that its margins were the same as before the pandemic and it was not banking cash at the expense of consumers
It said the price of Pot Noodles “is at the sole discretion of retailers”.
Sainsbury’s said it is committed to offering value and sells instant noodles from 25p.
