Robots are changing the way one Colorado restaurant serves up its traditional cuisine.
Manik Sakya, owner of two restaurants in the Glenwood Springs area that serves a fusion Indian, Nepali, Tibetan and Thai Cuisine decided to put three cat robots to work in his restaurants to save some money.
After COVID, Sakya said he had difficulty finding employees.
He decided that purchasing robots might be a good idea since he wanted to save some money without compromising the customer service experience. It seemed like a good way to combine his passion for robots and get help at a discounted rate, Sakya said.
Each robot can serve up to four trays at the same and makes its way back to the kitchen after it has served the order.

The robots cost around $25,000 each, which is less than what Sakya would pay one employee in annual wages. Sakya estimated he has saved thousands of dollars by not having as many servers in his restaurants.
While the delivery is faster, it doesn’t completely eliminate the need for human servers who can explain the spice level of a specific dish. Sakya does have two or three human servers work alongside the robot throughout the whole day.
Other than saving money, Sakya has had more customers come into his restaurants because they are curious about a robot serving them and kids who are excited to touch the robot cat’s ears.
“The best part of having robots work for you is that they don’t argue with you or get tired,” Sakya said.
