Martin Lewis has shared a text message that could save you “shed load of money”. Taking to his TikTok account, the Money Saving Expert founder revealed the number he urges all mobile phone owners to contact, which can possibly result in lowering your bill.
“Why not text ‘INFO’ to 85075, it’s free and it will tell you whether you’re one of 14 million people in the UK who are currently out of contract and therefore free to switch and can likely save a shed load,” he said. He went on to point out that there are a few cases it won’t work, such as if you’ve got a contract where there’s multiple phones in a household.
However, he added: “In which case, if you’ve been with the same provider for more than two years, you’re likely out of contract.” Martin said the reason he is sharing this now is due to the upcoming price hike.
At the start of April, prices on most mobile phone networks are going to rise 8% – even if you’re in mid-contract – which Martin describes as “absolutely outrageous” and is something he’s “written to the Chancellor about”.
Urging people to send the free text message, Martin stressed: “It’s a really good opportunity to see if you can save. As for what you can get, the best deals aren’t direct, they’re going through comparison sites, where they put marketing budget into giving you cheaper prices.”
At the end of the video, he states: “My main message is do that text (INFO to 85075), see if you’re out of contract and check before prices go up whether you can save a shed load by switching – hope that helps.”
Many people took to the comment section to praise the financial expert for sharing his expertise. Conlew wrote: “In Martin Lewis we trust.”
Dan said: “Just asked my partner what she’s paying. She’s paying £28 for 5gb. Out of contract. I’ve bullied her into looking for a new deal.” HB asked: “Surely better to take a deal after the in contract price rise so you lock in the price until next year?” Martin replied: “Many cheap sim deals are fixed price for first year.”
However, some people claimed they had issues with one particular mobile provider. Derry said: “Have tried this a few times with o2 and nothing comes back.” Pedal replied: “Took a little while for me but just came back now. O2 here too.” JB put: “Doesn’t work with o2.”
