Martin Lewis has shared a handy tip for Ring Doorbell users, after the company announced a 43 per cent price increase.

The cost of Ring’s Protect Basic Plan is set to rise from £34.99 a year to £49.99, or from £3.49 to £4.99 a month, starting March 11, 2024. The money-saving guru suggested on social media that customers could avoid the hike by cancelling their current subscription and re-subscribing at the existing rate. He posted: “Beat the Ring doorbell 43% March price hike.”

“I know many are annoyed, so there’s a possible work around (still double-checking but thought I’d get it out). Cancel now get a pro-rata refund (you may lose saved files tho). Sign up again at the current price which then locks it in for the next year.”

A number of fans said they’ve used the information and it’s turned out to be a success. User @StocksC_cricket said “This works. Just done” while another user, @atif21 shared: “Worked for me @MartinSLewis. I was on a monthly which was due to renew on Tuesday. Cancelled, got 23p back instantly and have signed up to the annual plan for £35. Thanks!”

However, an Amazon spokesperson stated: “Since Ring launched its Protect Basic Plan in 2015, we’ve regularly found ways to enhance the plan to give our customers more value. As we continue to invest in the services we offer, we are updating our Protect Basic plan pricing.”

It added: “Starting March 11, 2024, Ring Protect Basic will increase to £4.99/month. We believe that Ring Protect offers some of the best value in the industry.”
