Kremlin spokesman slams US for ‘throwing money to a sea’ in Ukraine aid | News

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov implied the United States is wasting money providing aid to Ukraine.

Peskov gave a television interview to NBC News, which aired on Friday, to respond to House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky just before the House recessed.

“Listen, America is strongly involved in this conflict, America and European countries,” Peskov said. “Supplying Ukraine with weapons, you are becoming a part of this conflict, willingly or unwillingly. And you have to understand — you have to understand your responsibility for that. You are making this conflict longer.”

Peskov said it was Washington’s “great mistake” to have become involved in the conflict. The war in Ukraine is approaching its second year. The Senate did not pass another aid bill for Ukraine earlier this month.

“I mean, America is simply throwing money to a sea, to a wind,” Peskov continued. “You’re just spending money of your taxpayers, and you are getting involved in this conflict deeper and deeper.”

Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) delayed the Senate’s end-of-year recess to allow time to strike a deal on another bill that combines Ukraine aid and border regulations. However, as the House has recessed already, President Joe Biden is unlikely to receive the bill for signing before the new year.

The White House has requested an additional $60 million for Ukraine. The U.S. has sent $44 billion to the country to aid in its fight.
