Kobbie Mainoo has quickly become a key player for Manchester United this season, prompting speculation he could be rewarded with a bumper new long-term contract.

The 18-year-old first impressed in pre-season, but had to wait until November to make his first appearance of the campaign after suffering an ankle injury in a friendly match against Real Madrid.

However, since starring in United’s 3-0 win over Everton, Mainoo has cemented himself as one of the first names on the team sheet for Erik ten Hag. Despite his remarkable rise and the potential lure of a new big money deal, the Daily Mail are reporting that Mainoo is in no rush to sign a fresh contract.

The report states the player’s camp are content to let him continue developing for now, with his current deal set to run until June 2027 but also including the option of a further year. As a result there is ‘no panic or rush to get back to the negotiating table before the end of the season’.

Mainoo is very highly rated at Old Trafford, with Red Devils skipper Bruno Fernandes revealing earlier this month that he felt confident the midfielder had a bright future after watching him play for United under-18s. Speaking to TNT Sports after Mainoo scored in United’s 4-3 win over Wolves, Fernandes said: “He’s a big talent.

“I’ve said it in the past – I’ve seen him play for the under-18s two or three years ago and I said to a friend who was in Manchester who wanted to see some youth games, I said the name of Kobbie, without knowing he was going to be this talented and this player. The talent was there. But he’s better as a kid than a player. He will be in the future equally.”

Mainoo has started alongside Casemiro in recent weeks and Ten Hag believes that playing with the five-time Champions League winner is having a huge effect on the youngster’s progress. “We are happy to have him (Casemiro) back and when he plays together with Mainoo, I think they can benefit each other,” Ten Hag said.
