I’ve owned my Dyson fan for 2 years, here’s 7 reasons why it’s worth the money

Now that summer is here, of course we’re basking in the warm weather and long hours of daylight, but struggling to sleep in the heat is a yearly challenge. Finding the right fan can be the key to achieving a restful eight hours, rather than feeling groggy and fatigued for days.

If its too loud, it’s impossible to sleep through, plus the fast-spinning blades are a magnet for dust particles and poor airflow can make you feel like you’re sleeping in a pool of your own sweat. The solution? Dyson are leading the way with its range of purifying fans that not only have super powerful cooling power but also filter out 99.95% of pollutants.

For the past two years, I’ve been loyal to one fan, and one fan only. The Dyson Purifier Cool Autoreact has been by my bedside, working from home desk and on the sofa every summer since 2022, and it’s some of the best money I’ve ever spent in the pursuit of being comfortable during UK heatwaves.

Specs: Height – 1,050 mm | Weight – 5kg | Oscillation – 350 degrees | Airflow settings – 10

I bought this Dyson fan in 2022 and think it’s worth every penny if you struggle to cool down over the summer. It’s extremely quiet and efficient, can be operated via remote control, has 10 settings along with a timer function and night mode, and is super sleek and lightweight.

However, for over £400, it’s a big investment and not one I made quickly. Having now owned it for two years, I know the ins and out of how it works and fully believe it’s a worthwhile splurge. Here’s seven reasons why I love it.

One of my favourite features is how quietly it cools any room. Specifically designed to reduce ‘turbulence’ it can barely be heard, never interrupts my zoom calls when working from home and has the option of a night mode – which reduces the noise even further. It even has a timer you can set so it will turn itself off, so no need to worry about that as you’re trying to get to sleep.

Whether you want a mild breeze or strong airflow that will cool you down in seconds, this fan offers an appropriate setting for all scenarios. Settings one to four are a gentle cooling, while five to seven provide a medium airflow and eight to 10 are great for when you need an instant fix in sweaty summer weather.

The aforementioned night mode is a game changer. Simply select the button on the remote with a moon on it and swipe through the two, four or eight hour timer options. After the time you have selected is up, it will automatically switch itself off. When the night mode is active, the airflow is even quieter so you can drift off to sleep without having to be conscious of your fan running, and the display will dim itself too as to not disturb you. Genius.

There’s no blades in this fan, instead it circulates airflow through the small holes that not only cool you, but captures any pollutants in the air at the same time and projects purified air back into the room. There are two layers of purification that trap gases and up to 99.95% of tiny particles, even ones as small as 0.1 microns – that’s the size of microscopic dust mites. And once they’re inside, they’re sealed there thanks to the fully-sealed system. So, it’s a clever and useful two-in-one gadget.

The only maintenance you need to do is replace the filter approximately every 12 months (when you buy the fan it comes with a HEPA and Activated Carbon Filter supplied in the box). You can repurchase the filters directly from Dyson’s site.

While I typically prefer my Dyson fan to be directing airflow towards my face almost always, I do appreciate how easy it is to change the angle of the air with the oscillating feature on the remote. It cools the room down evenly and doesn’t make any sound as it turns. Better yet, it has a rotating base which means I can manoeuvre it to direct airflow in any angle with just the lightest touch.

As you can tell from the design, this fan isn’t your typical clunky, heavy and awkward model that’s a faff to move or wrangle with to fit into a storage cupboard. Instead it weighs just 4.99kg and thanks to its blade-less design, you can use the centre gap to move it around with ease. It’s ideal if you work from home like me and want to use it by your desk during the day and by your bed at night.

Firstly, every fan should be able to be controlled with a remote, it’s a game-changer if you’re particularly lazy like me and don’t want to be reaching for a switch stuck behind the bed or tapping fan buttons in the middle of the night.

It has a very simple interface that allows you to scroll through the ten cooling settings, switch to night mode, turn on the oscillating function or get information on the air quality. The battery life is very impressive, too. In the two years I’ve owned this fan, I’m yet to change the batteries. Best of all however, is its magnetic design, which satisfyingly sticks to the top of the fan, so you’ll never lose it. It’s a simple design feature that makes it feel all the more sleek and space-saving.

Dyson

Specs: Height – 1007cm | Weight – 2.85kg | Oscillation – 70 degrees Airflow settings – 10

Engineered for larger spaces, the height of this tower fan 1,007cm but weights just 2.85kg. It will cool you fast with its 10 settings, and can be programmed to turn off with the timer function, which ranges from 15 minutes to nine hours. It’s also operated via remote control, offers 70 degree oscillation and has a 1.8m cord length.

What shoppers say: “I was lucky enough to buy this one week before the big heat wave of 2022. Even on the lowest setting which is virtually silent, it creates a beautifully gentle movement of air in the room which replicates a natural breeze. At higher settings the air movement becomes stronger and really does cover the whole room when it oscillate but it doesn’t “pummel” you as it goes round in the same way a traditional Fan would it just wafts the whole room.”
