If I just loved money and fame, then I would have stayed in the US and in the WWE

The Great Khali, a renowned professional wrestler in the WWE, has transitioned into an unexpected new career after disappearing from the public eye.

Khali, whose birth name is Dalip Singh Rana, initially made a name for himself in 2006 as a formidable opponent in the ring, standing at an impressive 7ft 1in and weighing over 150kg. His character was known for being a flirtatious “Punjabi Playboy” on-screen and an imposing real-life giant.

However, after a brief cameo appearance in 2018, Khali retreated from the limelight, leaving fans wondering about his whereabouts. It was only after a hiatus of five years that he surprised his followers by revealing his foray into Indian politics. In February 2022, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and expressed his admiration for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s ideology.

Despite his larger-than-life persona, Khali has managed to transform himself into a well-groomed politician, sporting a shirt and blazer to cover his massive frame, and keeping his long hair tied back neatly. His transition into politics is unexpected, but it remains to be seen what impact he will have in his new career.

“I have wrestled all over the world,” he said.

“If I just loved money and fame, then I would have stayed in the United States and in the WWE.

“However, I have always loved my country. I was also impressed by all the work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde took to Twitter to welcome Great Khali.

“I warm-heartedly welcome Shri Dalip Singh Rana ‘The Great Khali’ to BJP,” Tawde wrote.

“His inspiration is drawn by Modi Ji’s vision for a new India and his willingness to work for nation’s growth is the guiding principle of BJP.”
