I was left ‘shaking’ after winning £105k prize – I’ll be spending money in specific way after suffering heartbreak

A MAN was left “shaking” after winning a £105,000 prize in a radio draw and has revealed how he’ll spend the money after suffering heartbreak.

John, who discovered that he had won Hit Radio UK’s Cash Register competition when show host Hattie Pearson called him, shared the touching purchase he plans to make.

In a clip, posted to the station’s Twitter account, he admitted that he had “never won anything” before telling Hattie his intentions.

John explained that his wife Anita tragically passed away six years ago and that he was never able to afford a headstone for her grave.

He visits her every week to lay fresh flowers but was desperately saving to buy the memorial that he felt she deserved.

The pensioner added that the only thing he had ever won was “the love of a lovely lady”, which brought a tear to Hattie’s eye.

In the video, John said: “I would buy a gravestone for my late wife’s grave. I lost her six years ago.

“When you’re a pensioner, it takes a long time to save up with the cost of stuff nowadays.”

In response, Hattie, who was visibly moved by his story, said: “When you go and see your late wife Anita on Saturday at the graveyard, you’ve got some good news to share with her.

“You’ve just won £105,000 and you’ll be able to get her a gravestone that she deserves.”

Stunned, John joked: “I need five minutes before I can go anywhere! My legs are shaking, I’m shaking everywhere.

“Well, I say I’ve never won anything, I’ve won the love of a lovely lady.”

He finished by thanking Hattie enthusiastically, adding: “You don’t know what it means.”

It comes after a woman who won a Euromillions jackpot when she was just 17 revealed that she still hasn’t spent the winnings ten years later.
