A HUGE coffee chain with over 600 UK branches has closed its doors “after many years of serving customers”.

A spokesperson for the chain, which runs over 600 branches across the UK, said it closed “after many years of serving customers.”

They added: “The nearby store on Gordon Street is still open and happily welcoming customers to enjoy hand crafted, speciality coffee.”

Caffè Nero isn’t the only coffee chain closing branches in the UK.

Costa Coffee is shutting its Oakham shop in the East Midlands on Friday after a string of closures.

The chain, which has over 2,000 sites in the UK, has shut six stores in recent months.

However, one of these is only temporary for renovation while another is being relocated.

Among the four permanent closures is the branch in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, which shut on June 3.

The branch in Witney closed just two days later, while the chain’s Wigan town centre branch shut up shop on June 25.

On July 9, the Costa in the Five Rise shopping centre in Bingley also shut.

It’s not just coffee shops closing stores either – a number of other retailers have been feeling the pinch this year.

High inflation since 2022 has seen shoppers’ purses and wallets squeezed, meaning they’re spending less.

Shoppers are also increasingly turning to online retail.

This, combined with high energy and wage costs, has seen many retailers struggling.

Argos, Iceland and Tesco are just a few closing stores, with a number of other retailers going bust completely.

Cath Kidston, Paperchase and Wilko have all collapsed into administration this year.

Some of Wilko’s stores have been saved from closure though, with Poundland snapping up 71 and B&M rescuing 51.

Some retailers have been expanding though – including Primark and B&M.

Bakery chains Wenzel’s the Bakers and Patisserie Valerie are opening 11 branches between them in the coming months too.
