The International Cricket Council (ICC) have suffered huge losses after hosting the T20 World Cup 2024 in USA. This will be an important topic that would be discussed in the ICC AGM.

New Delhi: While the ICC Annual General Meeting is just a day away from start, news regarding the losses suffered by the apex cricket body after hosting the US leg of the T20 World Cup has come out. The ICC AGM will be a four-day affair starting in Colombo on Saturday and the most important topic which tops the list is the regarding the losses suffered by the board for the USA-leg of the event.

According to a report in news agency PTI, the ICC suffered losses of around USD 20 million that amounts to Rs 167 crore for hosting the event in the United States. While the topic is officially not part of the nine-point agenda of the AGM, yet it will be discussed as a post-event report.

Major part of event held in US

Major part of the showpiece event was was held in the Americas, including the all-important clash between fierce rivals India and Pakistan in New York on June 9. While the actually amount will soon be out after the ICC conference, yet it is believed that the losses would be somewhere close to the amount mentioned in the report.

Meanwhile, apart from the losses topic, another important thing which will be discussed during the meet is when will BCCI secretary Jay Shah take over the reins of the apex cricket body from New Zealand’s Greg Barclay. It is expected that Shah would become the new ICC chairman by the end of this year or early next year

“It is not about how but when, as he still has one year left as BCCI secretary before his cooling off period in Indian board starts in 2025 as per constitution. However, if he has to take over in 2025, then Barclay can’t complete his third term of two years from December 2024 to December 2026,” the ICC source said.
