Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to have been asked to give up their UK home Frogmore Cottage in Windsor – and according to royal expert Ingrid Sewad, this is “just the beginning” when it comes to King Charles’s money-saving drive
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reported loss of Frogmore Cottage is “just the beginning” of King Charles’ money-saving drive, a royal expert believes.
It has been claimed today that Charles made the decision to remove the Sussexes from the Windsor propert y as there has been no thaw in their relationship with the Royal Family and it has been offered to Prince Andrew.
Now it is reported that Harry and Meghan are arranging for the belongings that they still have at Frogmore Cottage to be sent to their home in California.
Since quitting as working royals in 2020, Harry and Meghan have only used Frogmore Cottage a handful of times – most recently when they were in the UK for charity visits before the death of the late Queen.
And according to royal biographer and editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine Ingrid Seward, the Charles is “well aware” having empty properties scattered around the country is “not a good look in these hard times”.
She told the Mirror: “The loss of Frogmore Cottage comes as unwelcome news for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“The fact the King’s son Harry is being targeted cannot but help look like a settling of scores for the disloyalty to his family in his explosive memoir Spare.
“Charles will always love his son but as he said in his first public address as King, Harry and Megan would ‘continue to build their lives overseas.’ Buckingham Palace have therefore been in discussion with the California based couple about their need for a residence in the UK.
“The suggestion to give up Frogmore did apparently not go down well especially as they have paid their rental to the Crown Estate in advance. But within the royal family nothing is impossible and duly an eviction order has been obtained to get them out of the cottage before their tenure is up.
“It would have to be with the assurance of the King who is only to well aware that having empty properties scattered around is not a good look in these hard times.”
Now with claims that Andrew has been offered Frogmore Cottage after reports he may be asked to give up Royal Lodge, Ingrid believes it is down to Charles’ task of making “extensive savings.
She explained: “The property [Frogmore Cottage] is said to be earmarked for Prince Andrew, who does not want to move out of Royal Lodge a far superior, larger and more private residence that Andrew also pays rent for.
“But without his annual allowance of £250,000 from the late Queen which comes to an end in April, he might struggle to meet the terms of his lease which demands he keep the extensive property and 90 acre grounds in tip top condition.
“The draconian solution proposed by the King’s advisors is that if Andrew moved into Frogmore.
“It’s royal swings and roundabouts, but King Charles has been warned he needs to make extensive savings and this is just the beginning.”
It comes after Harry and Meghan have been left “stunned” by King Charles’s decision to evict them from Frogmore Cottage – and two other royals have also been left “appalled”, according to another royal biographer.
According to Omid Scobie, one of the authors behind the biography of Harry and Meghan, Finding Freedom, the King’s decision came after Harry released his controversial memoir Spare in January.
He claims that the couple was told the property was needed for “someone else” and that relations between Harry and Meghan and the rest of the Firm was at “an all-time low”.
And writing for Yahoo, he explained: “It’s news, sources tell me, that has left Harry and Meghan stunned, and at least two members of the Royal Family ‘appalled’.”
