SPICE up your life in honour of National Curry Week.
Following on from the celebration, which ended yesterday, there are some amazing deals to tuck into at dinner time.
So skip the takeaway and tikka a look at these . . .
BIG DEAL: There’s still time to get the fantastic Co-op curry deal, with two mains including chicken tikka and korma, two sides such as rice or onion bhajis and four bottles of Cobra beer or Coca-Cola for £8.
At Asda, the Indian Madras & Masala meal deal includes two curries, naans, bhajis and rice and is usually £7.50 — but is on offer now for £6.50.
TIKKA CHANCE: At Iceland, try the expanded luxury curry range, with spicy balti and butter chicken dishes on a two-for-£5 deal (usually £3.75 each, so you save £2.50). Or mix it up with Slimming World chicken tikka lasagne, £4.25.
Plus, buy three of Patak’s cooking sauces, mango chutney, mini naans or Ben’s Original rice and get a free six-pack of Patak’s plain pappadums worth £1.50.
SECOND TO NAAN: Sides and snacks always add to the takeaway bill so DIY it with the Salter samosa maker, £11 down from £16.99 at TK Maxx.
Swap a naan for a flatbread and follow Jamie Oliver’s recipe using equal parts natural yoghurt and self-raising flour with a dash of baking powder.
Knead for a minute, leave in a covered bowl for five minutes and then take small chunks and roll them flat. Cook on a griddle pan, where they will puff up, and add a bit of butter and salt and you have a tasty plain naan alternative for a fraction of the price.
BACK TO BASICS: Want to make the cheapest curry ever? Blogger Thrifty Lesley (thriftylesley.com) has a great recipe, which once you know how to make can be used as the base for any curry.
It serves four and works out at 39p per portion. Make more and freeze it for easy weeknight dinners.
In a rush? Pick up Lidl’s jalfrezi with pilau rice for £2.39 — it scored highly in The Sun’s taste test.
