Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic draw the money for US Open title

Sportsbooks have shortened their odds offered for both Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic for the US Open title.

Alcaraz is the favourite with most European and UK sportsbooks just ahead of Djokovic.

Djokovic and Alcaraz have contested two Grand Slam finals and may yet meet in the championship match in New York.

The two men hold a big advantage over the chasing pack and will almost certainly be the top two seeds and therefore fixed at opposite ends of the draw.

Plenty of sportsbooks are not willing to split the two men right now and are offering the same price on Alcaraz and on Djokovic.

The man who denied Djokovic the calendar Slam in 2021, Daniil Medvedev is also attracting interest but his recent struggled for form are the reason he is some way off the likes of Alcaraz.

After his maiden Masters title in Toronto Jannik Sinner has also been drawing some money as a pick for the US Open title.

Former coach of Roger Federer, Ivan Ljubicic believes Sinner is a strong contender for the win.

“Jannik Sinner has the mentality of a champion, this victory is important and it tastes like liberation for him,” Ljubicic said, highlighting that defeating world No. 12 Alex de Minaur in the final was no easy feat.

“Against De Minaur wasn’t easy, he’s a difficult tennis player to face and we’re talking about someone who makes you play badly,

Despite his long absence from the tour Nick Kyrgios is still listed by a handful of sportsbooks as an option for the title, though he seems unlikely to take part at all.

Holger Rune, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev are also considered contenders for a first Grand Slam win.

Former doubles expert Frederik Nielsen, feels that Rune is always a contender in big tournaments.

“I feel that as good as Holger [Rune] is, I expect him to compete for the title every time he enters a Grand Slam,” Nielsen said.

“He is extremely fast on the court. The tournaments in Paris and Stockholm were a bit different because they were indoors.”

“New York can be extremely hot and humid. That’s not something you experience in Paris or Stockholm indoors. So, that’s something to consider as well.”

Home players, Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe and Christopher Eubanks are outsiders attracting little interest and being offered at long odds by most bookies to end the long wait for an American man to win the US Open again.
