A bride-to-be was left fuming after her greedy dad stole the money she’d saved to pay for her wedding after he originally refused to contribute towards their spending
A bride-to-be has been left furious at her dad after discovering he’d stolen the money she saved up for her wedding day.
It’s no secret that the build up to saying ‘I do’ comes with its stressful moments. From difficult in-laws to last minute planning hiccups, you have to expect some challenges along the way.
But one woman couldn’t have predicted what was about to happen as her entire wedding unravelled in front of her.
The seething bride-to-be claims her father stole some of her wedding fund, and is also refusing to chip in the money he had promised when the couple made arrangements.
Now she’s considering cutting ties with her father after he went back on his word – and even robbed her of the funds her grandad offered her. And to add insult to the injury, he stole money two months before the wedding.
The anonymous bride had been planning to elope with her husband but the couple later decided they wanted to have a traditional wedding instead. However, she and her boyfriend had struggled to raise funds to book a reception and turned to their family to help pay for the venue.
She spoke to her parents to see if they could lend her £10k each and the leftover cash would go towards their honeymoon. Taking to Reddit, she said: “We spoke with our parents about a budget maybe like 8 months ago and both sides promised to give 10k each. We were very very grateful for that.
“My mother-in-law has already paid her 10k upfront which helped with all the down payments and venue costs. My side was supposed to pay their 10k 3 weeks before the wedding to cover food/drinks/any final expenses.
However, at the last minute, her dad decided he didn’t want to give her any money. “We are now 2 months out from our wedding and he is no longer willing to pay anything and we have no savings to cover the cost,” she said.
She later found out that the money her grandad had given her, which was £1k, had been stolen by her dad too. Now she has been left conflicted over whether she should tell her grandad the truth but fears it will cause a rift between them. She also doesn’t want there to be any tension between her family on her big day.
Social media users were left shocked at her dad’s actions and some even encouraged the woman to expose him. One person said: “You absolutely need to tell your grandfather. Your dad stole from him too!” A second person said: “Throw Daddy under the bus and let him face the consequences.”
Another person added: “Your dad stole from you and your grandfather. There’s an AH here, but not you. Also, don’t let that man walk you down the aisle and reconsider if he’s welcome at all.”
