U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.30% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the declined 0.30%, while the index lost 0.52%, and the index fell 1.21%.

The best performers of the session on the were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:), which rose 1.57% or 7.37 points to trade at 476.76 at the close. Meanwhile, Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:) added 0.87% or 1.29 points to end at 149.45 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) was up 0.84% or 0.93 points to 111.16 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:), which fell 6.00% or 2.10 points to trade at 32.90 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:) declined 3.39% or 7.35 points to end at 209.62 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:) was down 2.56% or 0.83 points to 31.56.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 4.56% to 142.77, Corteva Inc (NYSE:) which was up 3.59% to settle at 58.57 and FMC Corporation (NYSE:) which gained 3.41% to close at 108.87.

The worst performers were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:) which was down 6.00% to 32.90 in late trade, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 5.73% to settle at 112.11 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 5.46% to 259.46 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Advanced Human Imaging Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:) which rose 101.35% to 1.49, Root Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 59.80% to settle at 9.62 and U Power Ltd (NASDAQ:) which gained 48.49% to close at 8.36.

The worst performers were Pieris Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 70.86% to 0.26 in late trade, Oncorus Inc (OTC:) which lost 54.21% to settle at 0.06 and Toughbuilt Industries Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 53.70% to 0.26 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1499 to 1468 and 90 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2084 fell and 1467 advanced, while 137 ended unchanged.

Shares in Pieris Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 70.86% or 0.63 to 0.26. Shares in Oncorus Inc (OTC:) fell to all time lows; down 54.21% or 0.07 to 0.06. Shares in Toughbuilt Industries Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 53.70% or 0.30 to 0.26.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.18% or 3.45 to $1,944.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.92% or 1.37 to hit $72.56 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.63% or 1.24 to trade at $77.14 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.66% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.26% to 141.82.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.45% at 101.67.
