Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the added 0.14% to hit a new all time high, while the index added 0.04%, and the index lost 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the were Nike Inc (NYSE:), which rose 1.60% or 1.71 points to trade at 108.84 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:) added 0.89% or 0.97 points to end at 109.71 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) was up 0.78% or 0.84 points to 108.82 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Chevron Corp (NYSE:), which lost 1.39% or 2.11 points to trade at 149.80 in late trade. Dow Inc (NYSE:) declined 0.86% or 0.48 points to end at 55.23 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:) shed 0.73% or 0.37 points to 50.39.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Match Group Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 2.57% to 36.73, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 1.84% to settle at 148.76 and Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 1.74% to close at 11.69.
The worst performers were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 3.16% to 253.18 in late trade, APA Corporation (NASDAQ:) which lost 2.88% to settle at 36.10 and Hess Corporation (NYSE:) which was down 2.58% to 144.74 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Nova Lifestyle I (NASDAQ:) which rose 203.23% to 4.70, Sidus Space Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 163.16% to settle at 11.50 and Cingulate Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 146.12% to close at 9.82.
The worst performers were Bluejay Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 34.17% to 1.19 in late trade, Meihua International Medical Technologies Co Ltd (NASDAQ:) which lost 33.95% to settle at 1.79 and Riskon International Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 33.72% to 0.28 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1519 to 1363 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1766 fell and 1648 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.32% to 12.47.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.81% or 17.05 to $2,076.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.83% or 2.10 to hit $72.01 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.67% or 2.12 to trade at $77.42 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.38% to 1.11, while USD/JPY fell 0.31% to 141.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 100.93.
