Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the declined 1.06% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:), which rose 2.23% or 43.00 points to trade at 1,973.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:) added 1.44% or 5.90 points to end at 415.20 and ConvaTec Group PLC (LON:) was up 1.30% or 3.20 points to 248.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Antofagasta PLC (LON:), which fell 4.26% or 92.00 points to trade at 2,067.00 at the close. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:) declined 4.25% or 32.00 points to end at 721.20 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:) was down 4.20% or 13.00 points to 296.60.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1195 to 638 and 676 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.08% or 1.85 to $2,328.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.37% or 0.29 to hit $78.03 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.48% or 0.39 to trade at $82.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.20% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 104.95.
