Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the fell 1.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the were Severn Trent PLC (LON:), which rose 2.15% or 59.00 points to trade at 2,802.00 at the close. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:) added 1.51% or 15.50 points to end at 1,040.50 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:) was up 1.22% or 37.50 points to 3,108.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:), which lost 7.09% or 54.00 points to trade at 707.80 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:) declined 5.55% or 81.00 points to end at 1,379.00 and Carnival PLC (LON:) shed 5.13% or 39.00 points to 721.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1332 to 481 and 469 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.82% or 15.65 to $1,922.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.07% or 0.85 to hit $80.65 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.22% or 1.04 to trade at $86.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.18% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.07% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 102.00.
