U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.29% By Investing.com
Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which rose 3.10% or 25.80 points to trade at 857.60 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) added 1.38% or 25.00 points to end at 1,838.50 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 1.00% or 14.50 points to 1,461.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which lost 5.52% or 4.33 points to trade at 74.15 in late trade. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) declined 3.78% or 10.50 points to end at 267.50 and WPP PLC (LON:WPP) shed 2.44% or 21.60 points to 865.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 947 to 749 and 502 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.07% or 20.95 to $1,979.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.72% or 1.25 to hit $71.28 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.44% or 1.11 to trade at $75.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.90% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.14% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.71% at 103.32.
