Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the rose 0.50%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Next PLC (LON:), which rose 5.79% or 468.00 points to trade at 8,550.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:) added 3.22% or 15.50 points to end at 497.20 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:) was up 2.54% or 18.00 points to 727.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Croda International PLC (LON:), which lost 4.40% or 215.00 points to trade at 4,667.00 in late trade. Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:) declined 2.52% or 345.00 points to end at 13,365.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:) shed 1.84% or 10.20 points to 543.00.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 977 to 676 and 457 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.44% or 8.95 to $2,051.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.87% or 1.36 to hit $71.34 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.88% or 1.47 to trade at $76.78 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.12% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 102.06.
