Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the rose 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the were Mondi PLC (LON:), which rose 9.30% or 128.00 points to trade at 1,504.50 at the close. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:) added 2.37% or 9.80 points to end at 422.70 and Endeavour Mining PLC (LON:) was up 2.26% or 39.00 points to 1,767.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included DS Smith PLC (LON:), which lost 10.26% or 41.00 points to trade at 358.60 in late trade. JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:) declined 2.79% or 3.35 points to end at 116.95 and B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:) shed 1.85% or 9.60 points to 510.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1005 to 684 and 747 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.43% or 10.40 to $2,408.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.47% or 0.39 to hit $83.12 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.26% or 0.23 to trade at $87.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.31% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.44% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 105.90.
