Tuloy sa lakwatsa! Economic managers traveling across Europe to talk investment


The economic team of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will be in Europe next week to present the economic situation and investment opportunities in the Philippines.

The economic managers will hold the third Philippine Economic Briefing (PEB) with business leaders, bankers, and investors from Jan. 23 to 27, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said in a statement on Friday.

Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno will deliver the keynote message while Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman will present the priority expenditures for fiscal year 2023 to investors and how they will play out in the achievement of the objectives outlined in the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, according to the DBM.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Felipe Medalla and Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan will join the panel discussions on economic performance and outlook.

The PEB Europe leg will cover Frankfurt in Germany and London in the United Kingdom.

The previous PEB briefings were held in Singapore and New York, USA.

The PEB-Europe is organized by the BSP in partnership with the British Embassy in the Philippines, Philippine embassies in Europe, and banks such as HSBC, UBS Group, Deutsche Bank, and Morgan Stanley, among others.

There will also be financial literacy sessions with Filipino communities, media interviews, and engagements with credit rating agencies, including Moody’s Analytics and Fitch Ratings.

The DBM, through its official Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/DBMgovph, will livestream the PEB from Frankfurt on Jan. 23 at 4 p.m. and from in London on Jan. 26 at 5 p.m., both Philippine time.

Partnership opportunities

Pangandaman also met with executives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Thursday to discuss partnership opportunities for the enhancement of the country’s Public Financial Management reform agenda and the institutionalization of its digitalization efforts, the DBM said in another Facebook post on Friday.

The DBM shared several photos of Pangandaman’s meeting with Shanaka Peiris and Ragnar Gudmundsson, IMF mission chief for the Philippines and IMF Philippines representative in the Asia Pacific Department, respectively.

Pangandaman, joined by DBM Undersecretary Joselito Basilio and Assistant Secretary Romeo Balanquit, shared “the commendable progress of the Philippine government in implementing reforms.

The IMF is a special agency of the United Nations which focuses on promoting global monetary cooperation, ensuring financial stability and facilitating international trade.

The Philippines joined the IMF on Dec. 27, 1945. (PNA)
