The UK will spend £245 million throughout the next year to procure and invigorate artillery ammunition needed for Ukraine.
The British government announced this.
The communique notes that Ukraine has recently suffered from an acute shortage of ammunition.
The UK will spend nearly a quarter of a billion pounds (about €280 million) to procure and invigorate supply chains to provide shells for the needs of Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Nearly a quarter of a billion pounds’ worth of UK funding will boost their critical stockpiles of artillery ammunition. Together, we will ensure Putin fails, and a victory for democracy, the rules-based international order, and the Ukrainian people,” Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said.
In addition, the British government announced the signing of a number of million pound series of contracts between the MOD’s procurement arm and UK-based Cook Defence Systems to provide hundreds of spare parts for the repair of Ukrainian tanks and other armored vehicles.
Cook Defense Systems is the world’s leading independent developer and manufacturer of tracks for armored vehicles.
The company is also an internationally recognized manufacturer of high-strength and armored steel castings for military vehicles.
Tracks will be produced to support hundreds of types of vehicle, including Soviet-era platforms abandoned by Russian forces and recovered by Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as those provided by the UK such as Challenger 2 tanks and CVR(T) reconnaissance vehicles.
As previously reported, Ukraine actively operates armored personnel carriers of the CVR(T) family by Alvis Vickers plc.
Since the summer of 2022, armored personnel carriers of this type have been involved in hostilities in Ukraine, where they help Ukrainian troops destroy the enemy.
In the southern sector, Ukrainian Air Assault Forces are also using British Challenger 2 tanks.
