Latvia to redistribute some unused EU funding / Article

EUR 200 million will not be invested in some of the planned projects. In such cases, Latvia will take advantage of the possibility offered by the EU to complete the project at a later stage, either for its funding or with the funding of the EU funds for the programming period 2021-2027.

“The Ministry of Finance has enough tools at its disposal to complete individual projects whose implementation is delayed beyond the end of this year, as well as, by precisely managing the cash flows, to ensure that Latvia does not lose its resources,” Finance Minister Arvils Ašeradens said.

ISome of the biggest projects for which funding is planned to be redistributed are, for example, the infrastructure development of the Riga East Hospital building, for which EUR 9.792 million from the European Regional Development Fund is planned.

EUR 3.6 million is planned for the municipal transport company Rīgas Satiksme Ltd project on infrastructure adaptation for low-floor trams.

The improvement of access to medical treatment and medical treatment support persons outside Riga is estimated at EUR 1.666 million. EUR 473 380 is planned for several deinstitutionalization projects implemented by local governments in Zemgale and Latgale in order to increase the accessibility of services closer to the family environment for persons with disabilities and children.

In turn, EUR 4.22 million is planned for the development of the healthcare infrastructure of the Children’s Hospital.
