Joseph Borrell, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission has announced a new budget support program worth 13 million euros for the Dominican Republic’s transition to a more inclusive and environmentally friendly economy. This initiative, part of the Equipo Europa program, will promote a green economy that supports climate transformations and helps to increase agricultural exports while monitoring pesticide use. It will also support public finance management and the competitiveness and sustainability of MSMEs, with particular attention to women and youth.
During his visit to the Presidential Private Office, Borrell congratulated President Abinader on hosting the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government. He also expressed his support for the Dominican Republic’s stance on the situation in Haiti, which he described as a “very complicated and difficult neighbor in permanent conflict.”
He affirmed that the EU would support any initiative the Dominican Republic takes to help Haiti, as the latter needs international intervention to improve its people’s dramatic situation.
