West Wylam Nisa owner funds ‘much-need’ chair for The Manors, Prudhoe

Residents at The Manors in Prudhoe are benefiting from specialist lifting equipment thanks to a generous donation from the local community members of Gordon Stewart and West Wylam Nisa Local owner Miv Chahal.

The £4,500 donation from the two men was also supported by a grant from Karbon Homes own community investment fund.

The equipment purchased with the funds was a Raizer Lifting Chair, which is a piece of equipment that helps residents who have fallen and incurred no injuries to get back on their feet.

According to the Manors, on the few occasions it’s had to be used, residents have said how safe and secure they feel and what a difference it makes to be able to get back up so quickly, with no fuss.

Miv, has always been known for his fundraising around the town.

In 2020, he was inspired to take on the challenge by Captain Tom Moore’s efforts and raised  more than £2,500 for NHS charities by doing 100 laps around his shop premises.

Despite his impressive running CV, which included marathons in Berlin, Chicago, New York and London, Miv still found it a tough challenge.

Speking about Miv’s genorosity, Lauren McKie, The Manors Scheme Manager at Karbon Homes said: “The Raizer chair is a fantastic piece of kit and we’re so grateful to now have one at The Manors.

“We’re very grateful to Miv for helping make this a reality for us.

“He’s a fantastic asset to the Prudhoe community, always going above and beyond to help those around him in whatever way he can, and our residents think the world of him. He truly deserves this recognition.”

Cllr Gordon Stewart also adds: “Miv is a very popular local businessman, who puts his community at the top of his priorities. Shops such are his are vital and I encourage people to shop locally when they can.”
