Walk for Orphans 2023 – Islamic Relief UK

20 Years of Charity Week

Islamic Relief’s Charity Week began as a vision – a vision that the problems of the world could not be solved by money, but through unity, a vision that stated that we are stronger together rather than apart.

In 2003, the work for that vision began – an Islamic Relief volunteer and student at a London university got himself a simple shoebox and stood outside of his university prayer room to begin collecting funds for orphans and vulnerable children. He raised £73 that day.

Set to celebrate its 20th year this year, Charity Week is today one of one of the world’s largest volunteer-led and organised campaigns, with close to £15 million raised for orphans and children in need.

Supporting orphans and vulnerable children across the world

The funds you help raise by participating in our Walk for Orphans, will be supporting orphans and vulnerable children through a variety of Islamic Relief’s incredible projects across the world.

Projects like ‘Education for Rohingya Refugees in Malaysia’, help vulnerable children in the community minimise the gaps they face in the education sector and maintain their key stage learning levels, ensuring they do not feel left out with other children in the community – and you help make this possible with the funds you raise.

Other examples of the projects you’re supporting include:

  • Supporting Children’s education for those with disabilities in Palestine
  • Education support for children out of education in Somalia
  • Orphans and Psychosocial support in Mali

Over the last 10 years Charity Week has raised vital funds to support 580,000 orphans and vulnerable children through orphan care, education, and emergency relief projects across 36 countries.
