US greenlights funds for advancement of electricity transmission

The United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is authorizing the release of funds that will back initiatives for the advancement and development of electricity transmission in the country.

In a report by Philippine Star, these efforts would be executed through organizing a visit of government officials and private sector utilities to the United States in order to check out innovations and optimal practices in smart grid technologies.

For USTDA, these initiatives could support the incorporation of renewable energy (RE) sources, decrease technical losses and costs, and improve service quality.

USTDA Director Enoh Ebong said that the agency has dealt with projects in geothermal and wind and continues to explore.

Furthermore, conversations have been ongoing as the firm has been scoping projects and technologies to share with its partners, supporting them in achieving their targets.

Meanwhile, US Senior Official for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs Matt Murray said that the two parties also inked a nuclear cooperation agreement, or the 123 Agreement, which bolstered cooperation on zero-emission energy.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the implementation of the civil nuclear energy policy between the US Agency for International Development and the Department of Energy (DOE) was signed on the same day the USTDA released funds for electricity transmission initiatives.
