United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown announced grant funding for the Western District of Louisiana is available through the Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant.
“The PSN program is key in our attack on gun violence in the Western District of Louisiana,” Brown said. “This grant will help assist officers and others take back our neighborhoods and streets.”
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, approximately $152,565 in grant funds are available for the Western District of Louisiana. At least 30% of the grant funds must be designated for grants under the PSN Program to fund new and/or current gang violence reduction strategies in the area.
“Times are hard in terms of funding for law enforcement and non-governmental organizations that seek to assist in making our communities safer,” Brown said. “Therefore, we are grateful for these funds and encourage those organizations that focus on crime deterrence and prevention to apply.”
The PSN program has four key principles:
- fostering trust and legitimacy in the community
- supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place
- setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities
- measuring the results of the efforts
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the fundamental goal of this program is to reduce violent crime and not just simply increase the number of arrests or prosecutions.
The Shreveport Police Department is the fiscal agent for administering the funds, and it is seeking applications for these grants. Grantees for this grant proposal are being advised to apply if they address the following key components:
- Gang and gun violence reduction, deterrence, prevention, community outreach and education
- Enforcement, adjudication and supervision programs
- Prisoner re-entry programs
- Other innovative related projects
To be eligible, grant proposals must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, July 26, to the following e-mail address: [email protected].
