These 24 images capture the mood of celebration and achievement as this year’s Children’s Cancer Run, marking its 40-year anniversary, got under way at Newcastle Racecourse on Sunday with thousands of people out to raise vital funds for local charity Children’s Cancer North
Around 10,000 runners enjoyed fun in the sun at Newcastle Racecourse this weekend as they helped raise funds for Children’s Cancer Run which is celebrating its 40-year anniversary.
The run saw all ages in action at Gosforth Park as Sunday’s event got under way around 9.30am with the first wave of runners – and thousands more followed as groups of families and friends ran one of three routes, ranging from one to five miles. Organised by local charity Children’s Cancer North, the popular event has raised around £8m over the years to help improve the lives of young ones with cancer.

And while many of the runners had personal experience of the disease, it was day for smiles and celebrations over what was being achieved, on both a personal level and a wider scale, reflecting upon the charity’s work over the decades. For more about Children’s Cancer North see here.
