In rural South Somerset near the villages of Martock and Long Load is Town Tree Nature Garden. Developed by farmer Chris and wife Margaret, Town Tree was open to the public from 1987 until Autumn 2019, but was sadly unable to reopen due to Covid restrictions.
The site has since overgrown, and is currently not safe for the local community to enjoy.
Friends of Town Tree CIC, in partnership with the owner, will manage the reopening of the nearly 22-acre space. With a view to welcoming people back in early 2024, there is a lot of work that needs doing to make this possible!
At this stage, we are asking for your support through donations & page-sharing, in the hopes that we can raise £10,000+ to cover some necessary purchases (tools, galoshes), skip hire, branding, website, core management costs and sub-contractor fees etc., for the next few months.
We plan to amass a Volunteer Network in the area to help with cutting back the thorns and clearing the lakes of reeds. We will need to bring in environmental & wildlife consultants to ensure we don’t disturb any natural habitats, and we look forward to documenting the species that inhabit the space.
The CIC will be writing funding bids left, right & centre to accrue the necessary funds for development, and further down the line we hope to be able to offer the space & opportunity to local artists & makers, as well as local groups for quiet activities and contemplation. We have dreams of artist’s studios and workshops and much much more…
But for now – £10 would go a long way!
Please share this with anybody you know who has a passion for Nature, Community & Opportunity and might one day like to come for a quiet stroll 🙂
