WILLEMSTAD – The EU Desk Curaçao celebrated its five-year anniversary with a conference aimed at strengthening its strategy, engaging the Curaçaoan diaspora in the economic development of the island.
The conference specifically focused on involving the knowledge and skills of the Curaçaoan diaspora abroad to better leverage European funds.
These funds, provided annually by the European Union, support projects in Europe and related countries and regions, including the Caribbean islands. The goal of the information week was to generate interest among local agencies in using these funds and to assist them in the application process.
The EU Desk Curaçao is an information and support center on Curaçao that focuses on European subsidy programs and funds. It is part of the International Economic Cooperation sector of the Ministry of Economic Development of Curaçao.
The main task of the EU Desk is to serve as a point of contact between Curaçao and the European Union regarding various subsidy programs and financial opportunities made available by the EU.
The conference highlighted how challenging it can be to obtain European subsidies due to complex and bureaucratic processes. Successful projects were presented, and tips were given to increase the chances of success. One of the information sessions was provided by Erasmusplus Netherlands, known in the education sector on the islands.
