In a show of good faith, the European Union (EU) announced a major allocation of funds to address the food crisis in the region.

Speaking at the European Union-CARIFORUM Ministerial Meeting held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St Michael, yesterday, EU Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen said 36.5 million euros (BDS$71 million) has been allocated.

“The world faces multiple crises – from the impact of Russia’s war of aggression to climate change and the deepening of inequalities. The only way we will overcome challenges of this scale is through multilateralism and partnerships. The Caribbean and the EU share a long history of successful partnership rooted in shared values, and today [yesterday] we are eager to deepen ties,” she noted.

Urpilainen said this was to show how committed they were to strengthening the partnership between the Caribbean and Europe, especially since the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine had put a strain on the region’s food supply. (Nation News)
