A martial arts club is set to kick-off a challenge to raise funds for transport to take students to a competition in London.
Members of Dempsey Taekwon-do will be taking part in an event in the capital on Saturday, November 4, and are collectively raising funds to hire a bus to travel to the capital.
Their Kickathon challenge will take place in Whaplode Village Hall the week commencing October 5 with an aim for each student to complete 1,000 kicks in an hour.
Owner Luke Dempsey (28) has been teaching Taekwon-do since he was 16 and he said: “Originally the club was going to pay for the bus with our own profits and after looking into it the cheapest quote was £1,250.
“The competition in London is a regional event and a step up on the ladder for the students competing.

“Our whole club, kids and adults, will take part in the Kickathon – there will be a team and community spirit.”
A benefit of the students travelling together will allay nerves about the competition and make it memorable for them.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up which currently stands at £225 with a further donation in the pipeline of £100 from a business.
Mr Dempsey, who also works for Royal Mail, said: “The main thing for martial arts is it helps to make you the best version of yourself and improves your physical and mental state.
“Self-defence is very important – learning what you are able to achieve with your body and learning control.”
The club has different age groups and is always looking for new members.
He added: “The club lifts people up – and for those interested we offer two sessions for free.”
