Community projects benefit from Inverness Ward Discretionary funds


Nine local organisations are benefiting from almost £12,000 Inverness Ward Discretionary funds approved by Inverness Councillors since June 2023.

Leader of Inverness and Area Cllr Ian Brown said: “It is always a privilege and pleasure for Ward Councillors to make discretionary budget awards; and I am delighted to see the latest round of funds going to a diverse range of projects that will make a difference to many in our local communities.”

All Council Wards receive a discretionary budget, and it is for Ward Councillors to consider what they wish to commit funds to, in line with Highland Council objectives and outcomes.

27th Inverness Brownies – were awarded £936.20 for the hire of Holm Primary for their youth activities.

Ardersier Community Hub received £2,000 for Christmas lights in the local community.

Bun-Sgoil Ghaidhlig Inbhir Nis was granted £3,020 for the development of a trim trail.

Dopamine Dolls were awarded £300 for outreach and awareness activities. Dopamine Dolls is a community and support service for adults living with ADHD in the Highlands.

Highland Rugby Club received £2970 for their Under 16 legacy rugby tour of Italy taking place in October 2023.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle Community Development were awarded £507 for free football activities at Inverness High School.

And three projects in Merkinch and South Kessock received £2218 Ward Discretionary Funding.

Merkinch Partnership was awarded £750 for the maintenance of defibrillators in the local community. South Kessock and Merkinch Community Action Group were granted £1,000 towards a Summer Fun Day Engagement Event; and South Kessock Residents’ Association were granted £468 towards the purchase of a lawn mower and strimmer.

In assessing the eligibility of Ward Discretionary Funding applications – reasonable applications, normally from community groups and organisations are considered. Some projects are given priority, including those which attract funding from other sources.
