Men’s Golf Tied for Seventh Through Two Rounds at NCAA Championships

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Through two rounds at the NCAA Championships, Florida State Men’s Golf is off to its best start in 11 years as it is tied for seventh place. The Seminoles are 11-over (284-287) at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., playing in the afternoon wave on Saturday.

Florida State’s seventh-place showing through two rounds is its best start at NCAAs through the same time period since Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger helped the Seminoles to third place in the team standings in 2012.

Redshirt junior Cole Anderson came through with a clutch round, recording a 1-over 71 to tie for FSU’s lowest score of the day. Anderson had a clean front nine with all pars, then maintained on the back with one birdie on the 10th hole and two bogeys. His strong round was saved on the 18th when he delivered a much-needed par on a tricky putt that broke severely to the right, reading it all the way.

Anderson’s 71 ties for his lowest round ever at Grayhawk Golf Club during NCAA Championship play.

Freshman Luke Clanton used three birdies on the front nine to highlight another well-played round, shooting a 1-over 71 on Saturday. He is 3-over (72-71) for the tournament after improving from his first-round score on Friday. He moved up 11 spots and is tied for 36th.

Junior Brett Roberts continues to pace the Seminoles after carding a 3-over 73 on Saturday. He is the lowest-scoring Nole so far, shooting 2-over (69-73) through two rounds of play. Roberts had two birdies on the day and is tied for 24th.

Junior Frederik Kjettrup (73-72) is 5-over so far while freshman Jack Bigham (70-76) is 6-over.

Bigham will start things off for the Seminoles in Sunday’s third round at 10:05 a.m. ET/7:05 a.m. MT. Florida State must finish within the Top 15 by the end of Sunday’s stroke-play round to move on to Monday. The Seminoles are looking to reach the final round of stroke play for the eighth time under Head Coach Trey Jones.

FOUR MAKE PING SOUTHEAST ALL-REGION TEAM
Four Seminoles were recognized as NCAA Division I PING All-Region honorees on Saturday morning.

Frederik Kjettrup, Cole Anderson, Brett Roberts and Jack Bigham each earned a spot on the team, which was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
