WASHINGTON, D.C. Thursday, April 20 at 1:00 PM ET, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will host “America’s Crime Wave: How the Failure to Prosecute is Impacting Businesses,” with U.S. Representative Nicole Malliotakis (R, NY-11), Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares, and Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Dan Mehan. In conversation with Chamber experts, these policy leaders will discuss rising crime across America and how prosecutors not prosecuting harms businesses across the country.
“It is the responsibility of government to ensure that our communities are safe,” said Neil Bradley, Chief Policy Officer at the U.S. Chamber. “That requires good laws, well-resourced police, and prosecutors who do their jobs and bring criminals to justice. Yet, it is increasingly common, especially in major cities, to find prosecutors who fail in their most fundamental duty, simply declining to prosecute many crimes. The result is a fundamental breakdown in the rule of law—but we can do something about it. At the federal level we can increase transparency to understand where crimes aren’t prosecuted, and offenses are repeated. At the state and local level we can demand prosecutors do their job. Business leaders have plenty to worry about when running their business, but protecting their employees and customers from violent crime shouldn’t have to be one of them.”
