Taylor Swift begged by world leaders to bring Eras Tour to their countries


Dagur Eggertsson, the Mayor of Reykjavik in Iceland, replied to that same tweet: “I would welcome you to my city as the perfect stop-over at the end of the tour.”

Just under a month after Mr Trudeau’s message, she announced six shows in Toronto next November. However, Mr Eggertsson did not receive a response.

The opening of the Eras tour in the State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona in March attracted 150,000 fans. Glendale was officially renamed “Swift City” by Mayor Jerry Weiers while the singer was in town.

Other states showed their gratitude to Swift for the economic boost she brought; Minneapolis was temporarily renamed “Swiftie-apolis” and Santa Clara made her the honorary mayor.

“Taylor-nomics” did not stop there. The singer’s two-day stop-over in Cincinnati generated $48 million in ticket sales and an estimated $92 million in new net local spending. Throughout the city, hotels grossed $2.6 million.

A few weeks earlier in Chicago, hotel occupancy reached a record-breaking 97 per cent upon Swift’s fleeting visit.

Fans are willing to pay extortionate amounts to get a glimpse of the singer-songwriter sensation. Concertgoers in the US spent on average $1,300 on one night at the Eras tour, with low-level seats in Atlanta setting concertgoers back a staggering $8,918.

One fan who witnessed a sold-out Eras tour show uploaded a pair of used dried-up contact lenses to the e-commerce retailer Depop, with the caption “contacts that have seen Taylor Swift Eras tour”. Attached to them was the hefty price tag of $10,000.
