Ita, sources to “Nova”: the EU Commission approves the remedies proposed by Lufthansa and the Ministry of Economy

The European Commission appears to have approved the package of remedies proposed by the Ministry of Economy and Lufthansa for the German group’s entry into Ita Airways. This is what Nova learns from sources close to the dossier.

The decision has yet to be formalized but – according to the sources – at this point we are only waiting for the final document with the indication of the waivers proposed by the two airlines, given that the Antitrust Directorate of the EU Commission “is satisfied with the preliminary version of the ‘ draft remedies’ sent in recent days”. Previously, qualified European sources had reported that the agreement for the acquisition of Ita by Lufthansa would not yet be approved, but the dossier “seems to be going in the right direction and could be approved with conditionality”.

The European Commission, the European sources had specified, “expects both sides to present a new version of the remedies” which addresses the concerns expressed by the EU executive on all problematic routes, both short and long haul.
