BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 12. The EU believes that
Turkmenistan has huge potential in the field of renewable energy
sources, a source at the European Commission told Trend.
“Turkmenistan has a huge potential in terms of renewable energy,
which is indeed one of the key areas on which we are focusing our
exchanges on energy matters,” the source said.
Furthermore, it was noted that Turkmenistan’s development in
this area should also include reducing greenhouse gas emissions,
including methane.
“In the EU, we have taken a first step through an ambitious
methane regulation and enhanced collaboration with other major
importers and exporting countries against the backdrop of the
Global Methane Pledge. Turkmenistan demonstrated its determination
to take action to reduce methane emissions by joining the Global
Methane Pledge. We look forward to keeping working with
Turkmenistan on this matter,” the source added.
Meanwhile, cooperation between the EU and Turkmenistan in the
field of renewable energy is gaining momentum in light of the
common desire to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and diversify the
energy portfolio.
Both sides are consulting and exchanging experience on the
development and implementation of projects using solar, wind, and
other forms of renewable energy, as well as negotiating the
possibility of joint investments and creating conditions for the
development of the renewable energy market in Turkmenistan.
